A simple sentence is a
sentence having only a subject, a verb, and sometimes an object.
Sebuah kalimat sederhana adalah kalimat yang hanya memiliki subjek, kata kerja, dan kadang-kadang obyek.
Sebuah kalimat sederhana adalah kalimat yang hanya memiliki subjek, kata kerja, dan kadang-kadang obyek.
Simple Sentence
Simple
Sentence atau
kalimat sederhana hanya terdiri dari 1 subject dan 1 predicate saja.
Contoh:
- We (S)
have breakfast at 07.00 am (P).
- My
mother (S) is the best (P).
- Windi
(S) is not busy (P).
Compound Sentence
Compound Sentence terdiri atas 2 atau lebih subject
dan predicate yang digabungkan/dihubungkan menggunakan kata
penghubung and, or, but. Dalam bahasa Indonesia sama strukturnya dengan
kalimat majemuk setara. Contoh:
- You
clean this mess or i will tell mom.
- We open
and lock the door.
- Risman
and Husni always work hard.
- You can
go by taxi or bus.
Penjelasan:
- Untuk
contoh kalimat pertama mungkin tidak akan terlalu bermasalah, di sana
terlihat dengan jelas mana yang subject 1 (you) dan 2 (i)
serta predicate 1 (clean this mess) dan 2 (will tell
mom), kata penghubung yang dipakainya adalah or.
- Untuk
contoh kalimat kedua terlihat seperti hanya terdiri dari 1 subject saja
yaitu we. Padahal jika diperhatikan lebih lanjut sebenarnya susunan
kalimat tersebut adalah We (S1) open the door (P1) and we
(S2) lock the door (P2). Karena ada kata-kata yang sama dan diulang
maka disingkat saja menjadi We open and lock the
door agar kalimatnya lebih efektif dan efisien.
- Untuk
contoh kalimat ketiga terlihat seperti hanya terdiri dari 1 predicate saja
yaitu always work hard. Padahal jika diperhatikan lebih lanjut
sebenarnya susunan kalimat tersebut adalah Risman (S1) always work hard
(P1) and Husni (S2) always work hard (P2). Karena ada
kata-kata yang sama dan diulang maka disingkat saja menjadi Risman
and Husni always work hard agar kalimatnya lebih efektif dan
efisien.
- Untuk
contoh kalimat keempat terlihat seperti hanya terdiri dari 1 verb dan
1 subject saja yaitu You can go by. Padahal jika
diperhatikan lebih lanjut sebenarnya susunan kalimat tersebut adalah You
(S1) can (V1) go by bus or you (S2) can (V2) go by taxi. Karena
ada kata-kata yang sama dan diulang maka disingkat saja
menjadi Risman and Husni always work hard agar
kalimatnya lebih efektif dan efisien.
Complex Sentence
because, if, when, although, though, even though, dll. Dalam
bahasa indonesia complex sentence dikenal dengan kalimat majemuk
bertingkat. Contoh:
- Because
I love English (sub-ordinate clause), I enjoy learning it (main clause).
- You
will pas the exam (main clause) if you study hard (sub-ordinate
clause).
- When I
was a child (sub-ordinate clause), I lived with my uncle (main
clause).
- Luki
cannot meet his mother (main clause) although he misses her very much
(sub-ordinate clause).
Compund-Complex Sentence
Compund-Complex Sentence terdiri dari 3 subject dan predicate atau
lebih. Jenis kalimat ini terdiri dari kata penghubung dalam compound
sentence (and, or, but) dan dalam complex sentence (because, when, if,
dll). Contoh:
- When I
lived in South Korea, I got up at 8 o’clock but here, i get up at 5
o’clock.
- Teja and
Ibnu teach in kindergarten because they love kids.
We use coordinating or subordinating conjunctions to
connect the sentences. The seven coordinating conjunctions are usually used
with a comma, and their initials spell the mnemonic "fanboys".
